Arthur Sato

Oboist and English Hornist Arthur Sato enjoys a diverse musical career based in New York City. He has performed with an array of celebrated ensembles including Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New Jersey Symphony, Knights Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic, Mark Morris Dance Group, American Ballet Theater, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, NOVUS NY, and Decoda. An enthusiastic proponent of contemporary music, he regularly appears with Talea Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound, International Contemporary Ensemble, Nunc, Argento Chamber Ensemble, and The Wordless Music Orchestra. Arthur has collaborated with recording artists Joshua Bell, Idina Menzel, Herbie Hancock, Richard Reed Parry, Alicia Keys, Josh Groban, Lenny Kravitz, Sufjan Stevens, Arijit Singh and has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America, NPR’s Performance Today, and PBS’s Live from Lincoln Center. He has recorded for Deutche Grammophone, Nonesuch, Asthmatic Kitty, and NAXOS record labels and can be seen and heard on Amazon Prime’s “Mozart in the Jungle” Season Three, as well as on the Season 4 soundtrack. Arthur is an alumnus of Carnegie Hall and The Juilliard School’s Ensemble Connect (formerly ACJW) and has appeared as featured soloist with Brooklyn Philharmonic, as well as the New York Symphonic Ensemble on their annual Japan tour. Summer festival appearances include Festspiel Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Chelsea, Monadnock, Astoria, and Aspen Music Festivals. Arthur is on faculty at New Jersey City University, The Calhoun School (NYC) and has taught for The Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program, Juilliard Global Ventures, Decoda Chamber Music Institute, and Columbia University. He holds a BM from Indiana University with studies under Linda Strommen, and a MM from The Juilliard School under the tutelage of John Mack and Elaine Douvas.
